About My Approach I am a UKCP accredited Gestalt Psychotherapist and an HPC registered Dramatherapist - the website is a reflection of my approach. I work from a Gestalt orientation which builds strongly upon my Dramatherapy background. As a Dramatherapist I am interested in what is being acted out between the two of us in the therapy room; what kind of drama is being played out in what passes between us. How we act together. I am interested in us finding out how the ways in which you might have been acting, in your life and relationships, may have been causing problems for you. As a Gestalt Psychotherapist I will use our own relationship, in the therapy sessions, to explore the patterns of feelings and behaviours that may have been making life feel difficult fo you. By doing it this way we can catch things as they actually happen, so we can both look at these patterns more clearly. From here, I believe that something new will happen, and I feel committed to offering support while these changes occur. I realise that not all changes are easy. I am also an improvisation actor with Playback Theatre York and have been a member of the company for eight years. My Playback training has increased my awareness of staying with what feels true, and of responding to this in the present moment and in the service of what is happening between us. My approach does not have set steps for set problems and neither does it follow a particular script for particular people. Each session is uniquely tailored to each client. This is something that we do together. I have monthly Clinical Supervision. This is a professional requirement to ensure that I continue to develop and improve my clinical practice. Professional Experience: Aside from my private practice, I have worked as a State Registered Therapist both in Education and in the NHS for the last ten years. I continue to practise in the NHS for part of my week.
Following my BA(Hons) my post-graduate training was as an Arts Therapist: Dramatherapist (SRAsT) - SRAsT stands for State Registered Arts Therapist. Because of this I am a member of BADth (British Association of Dramatherapists), GPTI (Gestalt Psychotherapy & Training Institute) and UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy). These are my professional bodies. I’m also a member of HPC (Health Professions Council) which is the Department of Health organisation that grants me my state registration. More information about these professional, and accrediting, bodies can be found in the links section. Sarah Fallon |
