LIVING A FULLY EMBODIED LIFE presented in cooperation with the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Philadelphia (GTIP)

Much communication in the therapeutic encounter takes place in somatic rather than verbal language; yet many therapists have limited knowledge, experience, and skill to engage the embodiment of their clients.  Current research provides us with new information upon which to ground our practice and points the way to greater inclusion of the body in psychotherapy in a more holistic approach.

GENDER IDENTITY: FROM PATHOLOGY TO CELEBRATION

OVERVIEW:
Historically, the mental health field has pathologized the notion of gender non-conformity. Most clinicians lack adequate training and familiarity around how to approach gender variance and are left feeling confused and cautious when these issues emerge in the therapy session. This results in clients feeling unsupported and even shamed around their experience.

Co-sponsored by GTIP and the Women's Therapy Center, this two-part workshop will explore how to approach gender identity from a non-pathological, non-shaming perspective.

CEUS:     4

NEW BOOK ABOUT THE INTEGRATION OF GESTALT AND HYPNOTIC REGRESSION

Announcing the publication of Randal Churchill's 448-page hardbound training text for professionals, CATHARSIS IN REGRESSION HYPNOTHERAPY. This completes a two-volume set that emphasizes the integration of Gestalt and age regression, further developing the guidance given in REGRESSION HYPNOTHERAPY, Volume I. As in the first volume, theory is combined with transcripts of sessions with commentary and follow-up interviews, giving a wide variety of issues and situations demonstrating the potential of this work. When utilizing hypnotic regression to help heal the effects of trauma, including with methods such as the affect bridge and Gestalt, abreaction is not a goal but naturally a common development and can be part of the opportunity for powerful therapy.

Robert Hall, who wrote the Introduction to the Fritz Perls autobiography, In and Out the Garbage Pail, writes: "I've never before encountered such detailed, professionally impeccable, verbatim transcriptions of cathartic release therapy that convey, so deeply, a therapist's capacity for compassion, while at the same time offering profound teachings for therapists in training. Catharsis in Regression Hypnotherapy is a treasure, and a resource for the entire field of depth psychotherapy, an offering whose gifts are never-ending. In his new book, Randal Churchill's skills as a brilliant therapist are enriched by his skillful integration of Gestalt Therapy with hypnotherapy, his huge capacity for insight, and his maturity as a master teacher of his work." -Robert K. Hall, MD, Psychiatrist, Gestalt Therapist

For further information or to order this book, visit http://transformingpress.com/catharsis.html, which includes a detailed description, the preface, table of contents, a picture of the beautiful dust cover, and reviews. Details about the first volume are at http://www.transformingpress.com. You can email the publisher, Transforming Press, at TransformP@aol.com or call 209/785-8856. ISBN: 978-0-9656218-2-3. Printed on acid-free, recycled paper with soy-based ink, the text is being offered this month at $49.95 a $10 discount, in celebration of its release.

Randal Churchill is founder, Director and instructor of the Hypnotherapy Training Institute, http://www.hypnotherapy.com, a licensed school near San Francisco specializing in the integration of Gestalt and hypnotherapy, which draws beginning and experienced practitioners from many countries each semester. He has taught his pioneering regression work to thousands of therapists over 30 years. He is also author of BECOME THE DREAM: The Transforming Power of Hypnotic Dreamwork, about the integration of Gestalt dreamwork and hypnotherapy.
