Loneliness

lonely.jpg
Sometimes we can find ourselves at a point in our lives where we realise we are lonely. This can feel like such a simple realisation, but not so simple to change. It may have come about through a change in life circumstances - such as a relocation, a new job or a relationship that has ended.

It may be that you realise that you've always been lonely but have always just accepted that this was the norm for you - or even just thought that everybody must feel this way. Sometimes we can be surrounded by friends, colleagues and family and yet still feel incredibly lonely. It can be hard for us to make sense of why this should be so, especially when we have a network of such good social support.

Loneliness can be a place of desolation, despair, emptiness and grief. Your relationship with a therapist can be a good place to explore the intricacies of what may be contributing to this feeling. It can also be a safe place in which to experiment with taking risks in relating that could, ultimately, change how it feels to be in the world.
