My Approach The website is a reflection of my approach. I work from a Gestalt orientation which builds strongly upon my Dramatherapy background. As a Dramatherapist I am interested in what is being acted out between the two people (more, if a group) in the therapy room. What kind of drama is being played out in the smallest moments that pass between us - the potency in the pauses; the eloquence in our silence. I’m interested in the stories that have led to this one, the one that is currently being told, and of what may lie beneath them. And I’m committed to us finding a form of inter-play that is an authentic place where we both can meet. My Gestalt training has given me an in-depth knowledge and awareness with which to explore this drama of the present moment, and to help us emerge through this to a meeting-point full of novelty and potential. From here, I believe that something new and growthful will happen, and feel committed to offering support while these changes occur. I realise that not all changes are easy. I am also an improvisation actor with Playback Theatre York and have been a member of the company for eight years. My Playback training has increased my awareness of staying with what is true for the client, and of responding to this in the present moment and in the service of what is happening between us. My approach does not have set steps for set problems and neither does it follow a particular script for particular people. Each session is an improvised and unique co-creation between the client and myself in our shared aim of facilitating growth. This is something that we do together. I have monthly Clinical Supervision and weekly psychotherapy so I can keep an ethical eye both on my own practice, and on making sure my personal processes don’t interfere with it. Professional Experience: Aside from my private practice, I have worked as a State Registered Therapist both in Education and in the NHS for the last ten years. I continue to practise in the NHS for part of my week.
Following my BA(Hons) my post-graduate training was as an Arts Therapist: Dramatherapist (SRAsT) - SRAsT stands for State Registered Arts Therapist. Further to this I have completed five years of training in Gestalt Psychotherapy, and will now spend some years preparing for examination and accreditation as a Gestalt Psychotherapist. Because of this I am a member of BADth (British Association of Dramatherapists) and also GPTI (Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute). These are my professional bodies. I’m also a member of HPC (Health Professions Council) which is the Department of Health organisation that grants me my state registration. Sarah Fallon |
