StressWe all experience stress at some point in our lives. ![]() Some people find they need a little bit of stress to help them achieve - such as the student who deliberately waits until the last minute to start an essay, knowing the adrenalin will act as an aid to completing it. However, feeling stressed when there is no pressing deadline (and also acting as if there is one when there isn't) means you are stuck in Emergency Mode constantly. This is not advisable. It's like running at full throttle regardless of where you are driving. There may well be underlying reasons for your inability to slow down and relax. However, as you look at these, it's important to slow down enough that you're not at risk of "breaking down". There are some self-help leaflets around to help you support yourself. This may be a good place to start. A good one is the one below, which can be downloaded and printed off for your own use. These leaflets are available to download or copy in their entirety. They were written by staff from Newcastle, North Tyneside & Northumberland NHS Tust The authors should be fully acknowledged in any reproduction and changes must not be made without their permission. ![]() |
