Voices & Disturbing Beliefs

voices.jpg
Not everybody feels distressed by hearing voices - this can be influenced, in part, by what they are saying.  If you do feel distressed by what you are hearing, then the following leaflet may be helpful to you.

You may also find you have developed beliefs that don't make sense to others.
It's possible you may feel hurt that they don't understand and find these different beliefs confusing.
Because it's only you that seems to understand, then you may find yourself acting out of character or wanting to spend a lot of time alone.

If the voices or beliefs are upsetting you please be assured that, if you go to your G.P, you will be offered help and support. And it's highly unlikely that you'll be the only person going through this experience in that G.P. Practice.

There are some self-help leaflets available, which might be a good first step. This may be all you need at the moment. A good one is the one below, which can be downloaded and printed off for your own use.

These leaflets are available to download or copy in their entirety.
They were written by staff from Newcastle, North Tyneside & Northumberland NHS Tust The authors should be fully acknowledged in any reproduction and changes must not be made without their permission.

This Leaflet is for people who experience voices or disturbing beliefs.
But you may not be sure whether you need to read this.
Some people hear voices and are quite happy with the experience – if you are one of these the leaflet may not be particularly relevant to you.
If on the other hand, you feel confused, reading it may be a start to making sense of what is happening to you.
